Why childbirth education is the best gift you can give yourself

March 20, 2018

Why even bother doing childbirth education? Women have been birthing quite fine for hundreds and thousands of years, right? WRONG! In this day and age, birth is highly medicalised and is also a big BUSINESS which has lead to higher instances of instrumental deliveries, caesareans, birth trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and postnatal depression. So its even more important now to DO YOUR RESEARCH!

A lot of women don’t understand the value of independent childbirth education until their second birth, usually following an unpleasant/traumatic/disempowering experience during their first birth.

Now don’t just take my word for it, there is A LOT of research out there proving the amazing benefits of independent childbirth education including the most recent study that showed those women who had completed independent childbirth education which included complementary therapies (such as our Hypnobirthing Australia™ course) HALVED the intervention rate! And while for some it may be a big financial outlay, studies have shown it actually saves money in the long term as more women have uncomplicated vaginal births therefore requiring less postnatal support!

Childbirth Education teaches you about the birth process, your rights, your caregiver options and most importantly your 'toolkit' for birth - that is all the things you can do during labour to have a calm and supported experience. The Hypnobirthing Australia™ course is very inclusive of birth partners! Your birth partner will know exactly what their role is in your labour and exactly how they can help you every step of the way.

I teach Hypnobirthing Australia™ classes monthly across Perth. You can see my class schedule here
